While we were interviewing, he really didn’t give me any eye contact. So I made a bold move. I dropped the F bomb. My name is Heather Ballentine. I grew up on a farm in the United States. I’m a mom. I love cars. I started selling Lamborghinis 8 years ago. I started at Tesla. I think I was their top salesperson or one of the top and then they offered me a management position, which I took. But I didn’t love being a manager. I preferred dealing with the clients and the sale and I loved the product and cars. I’d heard about a group that was opening a Lamborghini dealership and a friend of mine said you need to be working there you need to be making commission. At Tesla I was just getting 13 bucks an hour and then as a manager, I had a bigger salary, but it was still nothing compared to what you can make in commission sales. So that friend somehow knew somebody at Grand Touring Automobiles and got me an interview. I first met with H.R. then I met with their GM, both were very nice and really liked me. They immediately offered me a job selling Jaguar and Land Rover. But it wasn’t what I wanted. I already knew they were opening a Lamborghini dealership. They didn’t know I knew, but I wanted that. I declined the Jaguar and Land Rover position and I said I need something more exotic. They said we can introduce you to this Italian that’s going to be heading up a Lamborghini dealership and I said, yes, that would be perfect for me. I would love that. And he said, but I don’t know that he’ll want someone like you. He wanted the quintessential Italian man, someone with experience, it wasn’t really an ideal fit in his mind. He wasn’t thinking about a woman, especially someone fresh and new and someone that’s not Italian. But they said, we’ll get you the interview anyway, but more than likely, he won’t hire you. So I got the interview. He made me wait awhile before he met with me. And then while we were interviewing, he really didn’t give me any eye contact. So I made a bold move. I dropped the F bomb. I got his attention. And then I ended up at the Lamborghini dealership. The brand was being rebuilt after about a 2 year hiatus where there was no dealership. In the beginning, it was a lot of work. I had to not only build my clientele, my brand, but also the Lamborghini brand, again. It was a lot of social media. I was out networking going to every event possible. It took a lot of time and hard work, but it worked out.
