Sales Tips: Sandler Training Rule #49: Leave Your Child in the Car

Hi, I’m Dave Hiatt with Sandler Training.
Rule # 49, leave your child in the car. So there I am doing a training session and I
am explaining all about the trans uh actional analysis stuff, TA as we call it and I explained
all the parent tapes and I explained all the adult tapes and all the child takes regarding
the different ego states that we have psychologically. As I finished it up I said to the folks, “Now
remember there’s no place for your child on a sales call. It should be 70% nurturing
parent. It should be 30% adult.” I said, “So remember leave your child in the car” and
so I go on and continue a little bit on the other stuff and about 2 minutes later at the
front table over here I hear this woman lean over to one of the other participants and
I hear her say, “I don’t get it. Why would you take your kids on a sales call with you?”
I went “Uh-oh. I must have explained it wrong.” So I stopped and I had to re-explain. The
rule was leave your child in the care because that’s your ego state. It’s the way you’re
thinking psychologically. Don’t get emotionally involved. So to make it a little easier I
said, “Leave your child in the car but if you need to, go ahead and crack the windows.”
