Papeete to Bora Bora AirBnB on Air Tahiti | Matira Beach Heiva Bora Bora | French Polynesia Vlog #4

(Owen) We’re just getting ready to head on out
just cleaning that doing a last minute check…. jungle addict baby. Good morning!
thank you very much for checking out this episode of Gallivant with Us. (Maya) On this
episode, gallivant with us as we travel to Bora Bora where we check into our Airbnb,
go snorkeling and Matira Beach then go to Heiva i Bora Bora in downtown Vaitape. If you haven’t already please hit that subscribe button and bell icon, we
really appreciate it! Maya’s over here at the Tahiti money
exchange, we’re exchanging some currency before we head out to Bora Bora so we don’t get stuck with no money over there on the island. Uh, so we will be catching our flight here shortly. We’ll see you soon. Bye bye. [Music playing] We’re at the Papeete Airport, getting ready to go to Bora Bora on Air Tahiti. We’re gonna go spend the weekend over in Bora Bora and go swim and just relax. [Music playing] Just stopped to get a bite to eat. Pretty good. Not bad. Hi! We’re super excited, uh, just getting ready to board our flight right now. [Music playing] (Owen) The total distance for this Air Tahiti flight from Papeete ta to Bora Bora is 143 miles or 263
kilometers with a flight time of 50 minutes [Music playing] (Owen) Bora Bora comes from the Tahitian name
Pora Pora Mai Te Pora, what it was called in ancient times and means “created by
the gods”. It was shortened to Pora Pora simply meaning “firstborn”. The island
group is approximately 12 square miles and surrounded by a beautiful
lagoon and a barrier reef. The center of the island is the remnants of an extinct
volcano, Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu. The highest point is 2385 feet or 727
meters. The current population is approximately 10,600. [Music playing] (Owen) What do you think Maya? (Maya) Hooo, wow! [laughing] The bora-bora
Airport is located on its own Island, called a motu. There’s a free Airport
ferry that will take you from the airport to the main island where the
ferry docks in Vaitape. If you’re staying at one of the private resorts,
not on the main island, you may pay up to fifty dollars each way for the ferry
ride from the resort to Vaitape, depending on your resort. (Owen) Is this the one? (Maya) Yup! Navettes. Not sure if that’s how you said it but that’s how it’s spelled. Just got on to the free shuttle from the airport, uh, to the main island Vaitape, is where this boat is heading to. And then we’ll meet our Airbnb host and grab our rental car. This is amazing! [Music playing] [Reggae music playing] Woohoo! We’re pulling into Vaitape right now. [Reggae music playing] (Owen) When we arrived in Vaitape, we walked to Avis just a few feet off the dock and picked up our rental car.
(Maya) Avis Bora bBra also rents bicycles and snorkeling gear we thought that was
pretty cool. Our Airbnb host also met us at Avis so we could follow them to the
rental. A lot of resorts, tour companies, and even some restaurants will come pick
you up. So keep that in mind if you’re considering renting a car. [Reggae music playing] (Maya) This is our kind Airbnb host, Tuane, ia orana to YouTube land. (Owen) Just got the car. The Sandero. It works. [Reggae music playing] (Maya) There’s still a couple of hours until
the sun goes down so we’re just dropping off our bags at the room and immediately
heading out to Matira Beach. [Reggae music playing] (Owen) Matira Beach is the only public beach on the main island. There is a lot of areas to swim and snorkel. The lagoon looks like it goes on forever. Buut in reality this is just a small part of what this island
and lagoon have to offer. So we’ve rented a small boat for tomorrow to try to see
even more beauty this island paradise has to offer. [Reggae music playing] We’re over here at Matira Beach. Man, this place is gorgeous. Powdery, white, soft
sand. Amazing. (Maya) Tonight is the Heiva i Bora Bora and our nice Airbnb host invited us to come watch her dance. So we’re gonna go home take a shower and go check it. We’re over here in Vaitape, uh downtown basically. And there is a heiva going tonight so we’re over here at the food trucks right down, I think maybe
a block away from where we’re going to watch the dancing. And we’re just over
here grabbing a bite to eat. [Music playing] So, let’s see here, we got….I got chicken and fries or frites as they’re called here. Owen got steak and rice. Aaand, it comes, of course, with pieces of baguette and some barbecue sauce. Uh, we just had dinner over here at the Heiva in Bora Bora. And there’s a lively scene going on tonight. We’re about to go check out some dancing and go cruise around. [Music playing] We’re walking around this fair right now this, this thing is crazy! Wow, look at everybody over here. Oh wow, this must be all the costumes. [Tahitian music playing] Wow, what a treat! We happened to be
here I guess for Heiva i Bora Bora. This is pretty cool this is a lot bigger than we
thought it was going to be. [Music playing] [Announcer] Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the 2019 Heiva Festival of Bora Bora. It is about keeping the culture alive sharing it
with others and passing on the knowledge to future generations [Tahitian singing] (Owen) It’s been a long day and I think we’ll
call it a night since we do have an early day ahead of us.
We would also like to thank our friend, Tuane for inviting us to tonight’s
festivities. We had a great time! (Maya) Thank you very much for hanging out with us
and watching On the next episode, join us as we rent a
boat from La Plage and gallivant around the lagoons. Please remember to Like,
Subscribe, and hit the bell notification so you don’t miss our next video. See you
next time! [Reggae music playing]
