5 Used Cars You Should Never Buy

5 Used Cars You Should Never Buy

rev up your engines, today I’m gonna talk
about five used cars that you should never buy if you value your money,
and your sanity, now to begin with I’m talking about normal cars that normal
people will be buying use, I’m not talking about luxury cars like Range
Rovers that I tell nobody ever to buy a used Range Rover, I’m talking about
normal cars that average people would buy, and over the years I hate it when I
have my own customers not know any better and buy one of these horrible
cars, and then they have nothing but problems with them, now the first car I advise
you not to buy, is a 2014 Mini, now minis are
really a bad combination, you have the expensive parts of a BMW
made in England, the Germans of course are known for high technology that’s very
expensive to repair when it breaks and the English are known for cars that just
flat-out break, now with my own customers who bought minis, I’ve seen engines blow
I’ve seen electrical wiring short out because they use too thin of a gauge of
wire to save money and then it overheats and then the wiring connectors all start
to short out and sometimes even the wires themselves start to touch because
the plastic coating melts and then they short out when the coating melts and the
copper touches copper, so as cute as they may look, stay away from buying a used
mini, now the next car not to buy used is the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle, now I’ve talked
about beetles before the old ones in the 50s and 60s were great air-cooled cheap
machines to get you from here to there and lasts a long time, but the new beetles
that’s another story entirely, I’ve had customers with new beetles have to put
in new automatic transmissions that costs five, six thousand dollars and up
have air conditioning electrical problems, it’s a good idea to stay away
from buying a used beetle these days, unless it’s an old one from the 60s
because their high technology and high cost of parts, completely against what
the original beetle was, makes them cars that cost a lot to fix and they tend to
break a lot, a lot of plastic parts in them are really cheap and they crack and break
all of my customers that bought them, they were
all dissatisfied in the end, none of them were really happy, now the next used car
to stay away from is the 2013 Chevy spark, now the Chevy spark is a
subcompact car, one of the larger sub compacts, they’re extremely poorly made
vehicles, there are so many better made ones, like the Toyotas or the Honda’s
there’d be no reason for you to buy a used chevy spark, in my own customers
cars who bought them I saw excessive oil consumption,
sometimes the engine would just go out and tirely and stopped running and had
to be replaced, and this is with people who change the oil and filter, it’s not
like somebody who just drives it and never changes the oil, they just weren’t
all that well built, I’ll give you a comparison, years ago I had a customer
who had a Toyota and he brought it to me cuz it had stopped running and it was a
two year old vehicle, it had a hundred thousand miles on it, I checked it out and
said, oh it needed a fuel pump to put a fuel pump
on, but I said and man your engine it’s all oily and dirty, it’s leaking all over the
place, what’s going on this is a Toyota, and he said well you know I drive so many
miles as a salesman, I never changed the oil in this Toyota, now it had 100,000 miles
in it and=he never changed the oil, but the car had ran that long until the
fuel pump just happened to have gone out, so
though he had never changed the oil in a hundred thousand miles, the Toyota was
still going, well I got customers with these Chevy’s and hey they changed the
oil regularly and they burn oil like mad anyway even though they were being
changed, and aside from that their rattle buckets, they rattle like mad, they’re very
poorly constructed, stay away from the Chevy spark, you want a subcompact hey
get a Toyota or Honda they’re gonna last tons longer, now the next used car not to
buy, is the 2014 Mazda cx-9 I had a customer buy one use, his wife
liked it cuz it was zippy and they thought it looked cool, and yeah I gotta
admit Mazdas look cool, but that’s only on the outside, they made the
mistake of buying a used one, had a hundred thousand miles on it, about two
weeks later the engine started going out it was running poorly, I started checking
it out I said we’re gonna have to rebuild the
engine, the cams and everything are just coming
apart, now there’s so many little SUVs to choose from, there’d be no reason to buy
one of these Mazdas, they have problems with the windows not staying up, even
though they’re not that old of a car, they have interior problems, hey there is
such a large amount of good medium-sized SUVs out there, there’s really no reason
to buy this Mazda, and the odd thing that I always found out about Mazda was, man
their replacement parts can be super expensive, it’s kind of crazy but over
the years even the last 30 years, when I work on a Mazda, the parts can be four or
five times what they are for an equivalent Toyota or Honda, and if you’re
buying a used one, hey things are gonna break, you don’t want a car that has
expensive parts when they do break down, part of the problem in the past anyways
was that they made a lot of models and they didn’t sell that many of each one
so there wasn’t much of an aftermarket like with a Toyota or Honda, I could get
good aftermarket parts, with the Mazda it was always, either trying to use one from
a junkyard or go to the dealer and pay $500 for something that was $100 for a
Toyota or Honda, so whatever used car you’re looking, at take a look into the
parts availability and costs and the aftermarket for that particulars model
because if yours doesn’t have much of an aftermarket, and you’re stuck with buying
expensive dealer only parts, hey my suggestion is look at a different model
of used car, now the last vehicle I advise you never to buy used, is a 2013 Jeep
Compass, now Chrysler certainly not known for quality over the years, the Jeep
Compass was basically their attempt to make a cheaper Jeep that would cost less
so they could try to sell more to more people, if you ask me they went too cheap
,their trim is very cheap, the interior has a
tendency of falling apart, the dashes will crack in the sun after a short
period of time, they just went too cheap on these things to try to keep the price
down a little, so they could try to sell more of them, I had a customer with one of
these things, when they were driving taking a corner, the car turned off in
the wheel locked up, this is on a vehicle that had 17,000 on it,
and then when they took it to the dealer of course it was under warranty, they
said they couldn’t find anything wrong with it,
well my customer worried that, oh what if that happens again I take a corner and
the steering wheel locks up and the vehicle turns off, that’s dangerous, so they got rid
of the thing, they said I don’t want to be driving this thing around anymore, so my
warning is, don’t get in his position don’t ever buy one of these things,
he bought it new, certainly don’t buy a used one, now I was a kid
jeeps were made by willys-overland they were solid little vehicles, I mean
they used them in world war two, they went all over the places and some of those are
still running, but since Chrysler’s taking over
and then Fiat took over Chrysler, Hey the quality just is not there, Jeep has been
living off a name for decades as far as I’m concerned, if you were to get a Jeep
hey get a refurbished one from the 60s or 70s, those are solid built vehicles
take the Jeep renegade, the one they advertise, that’s basically a four-wheel
drive Fiat Panda, they made those for a really long time, but they’re just little bitty
things they have nothing to do with actual jeeps, but now they’re selling it
as a Jeep, and people think, oh I got a Jeep, no you basically got a Fiat Panda
sometimes people just keep trying to suck more money out of of a name to try
to get blood from a stone, and as far as I’m concerned, that’s what Chrysler Fiat
is doing, they’re just using the name Jeep and sticking it on stuff that has
no historical relation to Jeep at all, they just put the name on a Fiat and
call it a Jeep, so now you know five used cars not to buy, and yes there’s plenty more
out there, but certainly stay away from these five if you value your money, so if
you never want to miss another one of my new car repair videos, remember to ring
that Bell!

  2. The new Jeep Wrangler just got one star safety rating from….Australia because the same agent supposed to do the test in USA somehow did not carry out any test for this Jeep !!! Coincidence ??? No…It is just down right corruption between the manufacturer and the very agency supposed to do their job !!! Only in America, folks !!!

  3. Okay yeah, a Volkswagen Beetle has a lot of plastic that’s a complete lie!! VW is known for their interiors. As if Toyota and Honda don’t have all plastic interiors, give me a break!!!

  4. Don't forget Chevy Cruze , everybody I know who has one , including myself , has had problems with it overheating at some point .

  5. I’m surprised the fiero wasn’t on the list. If you don’t know how to work on those you’re in for a ride.

    I own 2.

  6. Jeep compass also had absolutely terrible engine torque. Felt like I could barely get on the highway when I rented one

  7. Are the old beetles really better? A problem as simple as the battery under that back seat and if someone sits in the seat and goes over a bump it would cut out and earth to the seat…….

  8. Honestly, got my '99 beetle used, 115,000 miles, never had an issue that wasn't user error. And meaning no disrespect to Scotty of course, just saying that some cars are good, even among bad ones. Just be careful what you buy and make sure to double check!

  9. Another car to not get is the saturn aura. Heard stories where people bought these new and it would break down apon leaving the lot

  11. I just had my 2015 VW Beetle totaled. Insurance paid it off. Only had it a month and three days. After watching this, there's a silver lining in everything. Glad it's off my hands. I'll get a 94 Celica now 👍

  12. He is completely right about the Jeep Compass. We bought a 2015 Jeep Compass brand new and just recently the engine would shut off taking a turn. It did it for months until I got fed up and traded it in for a 2019Camry XSE. What a world of a difference

  13. its me again! she just popped another motor in her jeep ! the factory refuses to replace this one ! I told her to trade it in after getting the last motor replaced ! she insist she looks cute in it ! im gonna go get her a convertible range rover or mabe even an audi q5 i own a q5 i paid less for the audi q5 than she is paying for the motor ! im gonna say zero ! she needs a jeep cause she sees girls at the hospital with one i cant explain to her none of the other doctors drive a jeep for a reason, the nurses and cnas have them cause they buy them from people like her who get them new and pay thousands to replace everything ! they know better!!!her jeep is on a 3rd motor now with 46k miles ! wtf are they allowed to even send this junk ???

  14. This man sounds like a blender. Knows nothing about cars gives me a headache hearing this tool talk. So I can buy a 2015 cx9 and be fine? How the hell does a camshaft just fall apart 🤦🤦🤦

  15. 1999 subaru legacy Outback Limited

For whatever reason, the engine kept blowing its head gasket, and the heads were very prone to warping as well.

  16. Three years ago we drove our Compass on a 5,000 mile road trip down Route 66. One year later we drove from our home in Ohio to Phoenix and back. We now have over 175k miles on it with zero problems.

  17. Where were you when I bought my Compass in 2011? Thing has constant relay issues that cause it to fail every few starts…

  18. We rented a Jeep Compass once. It was terrible! We couldn’t even get 300 miles out of a full tank ON THE HIGHWAY!! I would never rent, let alone buy that garbage!

  19. I have a friend who bought a brand new Jeep Wrangler Unlimited last year. Actually flew to Texas to buy one exactly like he wanted and didn't quibble about the price. First time he wanted to drive it farther than work, the damn thing died on the interstate in Nevada and had to be towed back to California. He was freaking out because it was dicey whether the warranty would cover the repairs and it was going to cost thousands. This is a vehicle with 3000 miles. Electrical problems. I like how Jeeps look but I wouldn't have one.

  20. I had a patriot same thing as the compass just more traditional jeep looking like the box Cherokees from the 80s and 90s. They’re not bad little SUVs but you got one thing right they are cheap as hell all the interior mean ridiculously cheap. I’m a big guy and broke the plastic on the seat three times while it was under warranty Plus a couple other things got broke on the interior before we traded it. Ran great thought And you can get a lot of options for cheap plus 4 x 4 capability

  21. Chevys are good, guys. He has it all wrong. Trust me i know my cars better then him evidently. Im not trying to be rude or anything but… yeah 😂🚘

  22. You put the Jeep Compass over the Chevy Cruze? I’ve owned multiple Jeep Compass ‘s and they all hit 200k miles easy, I’ve seen Chevy cruzes have serious issues after 30k miles

  23. never buy any Ford with a 4.0
timing chain guides are plastic crap that end up in the oil pan and the top of the motor , done .
will happen anytime after 100,000 miles .
the motor was built in Germany .

  24. I have a 2012 mini and I haven’t had any issues with it. Got it with 34000 miles and now it’s over 81000. I think a lot of the choice in what used car you want to buy will depend on the miles and how the other owner/owners took care of it. Any used car can be good or junk… even Honda’s or Toyota’s .

  25. Scotty has a 10head lmao
Just Go Bald Scotty I Will Respect you More Just Like Me Im Bald And Still Sexy 😂

  26. 2009 Chevy silverado 5.3 engine i guess lifters go bad they did on my truck at 100k miles i guess its a common problem it was $2700 to fix

  27. Jeep and Mitsubishi have been hand to hand for ever (that's why the motor in the compass is a 4b11)……

As for "slapping stickers" across platforms….. every company does that, including your precious Toyota vanilla cars with the old , outdated chassis.

  28. Any US made cars lol ( GMC DODGE JEEP FORD ) and also car brands like Nissan and Acura are also known to have mechanical failures and leaks..

  29. I will buy whatever I want, you can't tell me what to do, you shouldnt be buying celicas Scotty because they are so boring you become depressed

  30. The only jeep besides the real
Jeep you should buy is the Jeep Cherokee/Grand cherokee: No not the ones after 2001. I’m talking about real ones. It is the most invincible car ever made

  31. Anything commonly driven by women, do not by. Simple enough. Women don't know what maintenance is and don't know they're driving on flats

  32. We bought a Jeep new, 2-3 years later we got that same problem with the steering wheel locking up and the car shutting off. Dealership kept telling us nothing was wrong. We sold it and got a Ford Escape.

  33. My girlfriend unfortunately has a 2007 Jeep Compass and she has the same problem as the one you described, hasn’t happened for a while but it has happened a few times. Just recently the alternator went out, the AC doesnt work, we got it aligned and it went right back out of alignment and I have a pile of replacement parts that are going on the car soon. Junk car.
